Her section has a little more to it this time Ashley gets lost and separated from Leon once again in the Resident Evil 4 remake, and much like the Sherry Birkin sequences in RE2 you’ll need to take control of her to reunite them. Here’s how to get through every puzzle she encounters along the way. Screenshot by Destructoid Choosing the right key as Ashley Don’t overthink this one! You aren’t supposed to use every key in comical fashion to find the right one you can, though!. Just look for the symbol above the lock and match it to the corresponding key. Screenshot by Destructoid Screenshot by Destructoid The Ashley clock puzzle solution You’ll come across a rather large clock in an early portion of Ashley’s section ignore it, you’ll come back it later. After following the linear path you’ll come across the door you need to open for Leon which needs to be unlocked with a sigil. In that room on the desk in the top left hand corner of the room from where you entered is a note. It contains the solution for the clock puzzles all of them are the same. For us we just set the hour hand to 11 and the minute hand to four, and pressed “confirm” X on PlayStation/A on Xbox. The clock will move to the side and the way will be open. Screenshot by Destructoid Screenshot by Destructoid Screenshot by Destructoid The Ashley lantern puzzle solution For this one you’ll need just to match the symbols with the lantern The back of the room houses the circle lantern The left of the room facing the front, from where you put the back lantern down has the star lantern The right of the room facing the front, from where you put the back lantern down needs the crescent moon lantern Insert all of them in the correct spots and the gate will open up take the sigil and make it back to the aforementioned room with the clock code. Place the sigil into the wall next to the gated door and a cutscene will play you’ll regain control of Leon and continue the story. Screenshot by Destructoid Screenshot by Destructoid The cube puzzle solution There is one more optional puzzle that you could engage with immediately after regaining control of Leon that involves a cube. Place it in the slot at the altar and align the cube so that it fits into the slot and all of the filled-in slots match up. The exact solution can be found in the gallery above. Welcome to IGN's guide for Resident Evil 4 Remake. This page contains information on the eighth chapter in the game, including how to get solve the Bindery Lithograph Puzzle, get through the Battlements and defeat the Armored Gigante. Note that this guide for the Remake differs from the original Resident Evil 4 Walkthrough in many ways, as Chapter 8 is comparable in length to that of Chapter 3 Part 2, though certain encounters, enemies, and story elements have changed. In fact, much of this chapter involves areas not traversed in the classic version of Resident Evil 4! advertisementCollectibles Overview FilesClockwork CastellansTreasures2 1 6 New Weapons Available Matilda Handgun Need Help With A Section? The Wine Cellar Solving the Bindery Puzzle The Castle BattlementsFind AshleyWhen you regain control, Leon will be Ashley-less, with no way to reach her beyond the locked gate. Instead, head north from the sealed Courtyard entrance, and be sure to check out the gazebo and pond. There’s several Black Bass swimming here, along with a large Black Bass, and if you have the inventory space, you should probably knife them all and sell them to the Merchant at the end of the hall, or save some for healing if you’re low on supplies. advertisementNote - there’s a way to fulfill a future request from the Merchant earlier than expected, if you know where to look. Just after you pass through a small arch into the area where the door to the Merchant’s shop is, look straight up to find a small nest with yellow ribbons. Shooting it will cause a special treasure to fall down - A Scratched Emerald. It can’t be slotted into treasure, but when sold to the Merchant it will trigger a request reward to get you some easy Spinel! Speaking of the Merchant, he’s got a few new items to play with if you’re so inclined Body Armor 18,000 ptas Matilda Handgun 10 Spinel The Body Armor is much like the Combat Knife, in that the Merchant will offer to repair it as you take reduced damage while wearing it, and is a vital piece of equipment you’ll want to get for the trials ahead. The Matilda gun is almost as strong as the Blacktail, and can hold a ton of ammo, but instead of a laser sight, it can eventually be equipped with a unique stock to give it a burst fire mode — but since that’s not available yet you may want to hold off. Head up the stairs and don’t forget to smash the crate before heading inside. This next area is going to be extremely dangerous, and is the kind of place where things can go wrong very fast, so make sure all your weapons are ready. The Wine CellarDown the first hall you’ll come into a grisly scene - a group of dead zealots all gathered around the sitting figure of a Plaga Mandibula thankfully inactive. However, the chanting voices coming from further up are very much alive. advertisementThe door to the right is locked, so you’ll have to go up the left path to vault through open bars into the room below. Thankfully you’ll still be in a backroom to the main event taking place in the wine cellar, so grab a note on the wall for File - Consign the Crimson Flame. You’ll need that crimson flame to open the door with two creepy statues nearby. See the Wine Cellar Map above for Item locations, breakable barrels, Treasures, and more!Crouch through the doorway to take stock of the situation A red-robed Zealot with a staff will do an incantation to spawn the Plaga Mandibula from two Zealots, while many more watch on all sides. You have two major options here Go in guns blazing, or use stealth to thin the ranks. Keep in mind, attacking the red-robed Zealot will not only trigger the room, it will also cause him to constantly chant words that will cause Leon to stagger, interrupting your aiming and making it generally that much harder while you’re already being swarmed. advertisementA few well placed rifle shots from an upgraded rifle can usually take him down, but there is a way to make sure many more Zealots go down first Remaining crouched, slowly head right along the back wall, and then up the right side moving slowly. Leon should make a note about being stealthy if things are going well, leading you to a side room with two sets of stairs. Ignore the ones up to the stage, and look right for stairs up to the upper walkway above the wine cellar. As you move up, you should spot a Zealot moving away to patrol one part of the walkway. Knife them from behind and nobody should notice. From this vantage point, you can spot two more crossbow-toting Zealots on either side, and one of them is standing by a green crank attached to the chandelier high above. It would be a shame if someone were to tamper with it. Carefully clear out the other two crossbow Zealots up on the walkway, and then ready your rifle. Interact with the winch, and it will cause the chandelier to crash down below and instantly kill the two Plaga Mandibula without you firing a shot! Before the other zealots can react to this, pull out your rifle, and unload on the lead Zealot on stage before he can get behind cover or cause you to stagger around, and this will free you up to take on the rest of the Zealots of which there are still quite a few without interference. For an added bonus, you can check the stairway or the ladder on the opposite side of the walkways for red explosive barrels to hit when the other Zealots come looking for you. advertisementEven if things don’t go exactly your way, use those explosive barrels to avoid wasting too much ammo when you can explode your enemies instead. There’s plenty of room to run and gun, and outpace your pursuers to make sure you don’t get flanked by their attacks. Once the room is clear, be sure to scan the place for loot, and check where the chandelier fell for a Yellow Diamond. Then, head up to the stage to locate the remains of the red-robed Zealot for his Crimson Lantern. Treasure - Mirror with Pearls and RubiesBe sure to check the very back of the raised platform in the Wine Cellar, as there’s a red chest at the other end you can open to find a Mirror with Pearls and Rubies worth a ton! Castle Treasure 8 - Mirror with Pearls and Rubies 1When you’re set, head to the back room and use the Crimson Lantern on the statue to open a new path. There’s a sealed door you need Ashley to get through, but you can at least unlock the door back to the Merchant if you want to sell or repair quickly, then go through the unlocked door to the next area. advertisementHow to Solve the Bindery Lithograph Door PuzzleAfter a hallway with a breakable crate, you’ll reach the Bindery, and meet up with an old frienemy. When it’s over, you’ll need to get through a trick door panel at the end, which has four lithograph slots in various weathered states, and one stone has already been placed. To advance, you’ll need to find the other three stones in the room Lithographic Stone B is just to the left of the puzzle door. Lithographic Stone D is in a glass case to the left of the open window. advertisement Lithographic Stone C is on a shelf near the door you came Hardcore and Professional Mode, the puzzle has been altered. Lithographic Stone B is instead found in a cauldron by the fireplace, Lithographic Stone C on some white cloth to the side of the display case, and Lithographic Stone D on a chair near the - Extravagant ClockWhile you’re searching for Lithographic Stones, be sure to check for a chest by the fireplace, as you can open the red chest to add an Extravagant Clock to your collection - which takes both square and circular gems. Castle Treasure 9 - Extravagant Clock 1As you return to the door, you may want to inspect the Lithographic Plates in your inventory, as they hold the secret to this puzzle. You may notice the designs on each of the plates you grabbed don’t seem to match up to the slots on the trick door, at least not at first. Once you place all three stones to join the fourth, you may notice when moving them that you can press R1 or L1 to rotate the stone, revealing another icon on the back Lithographic Stone B has a blue hexagon armor on its front, and a red square helmet on its back Lithographic Stone C has a red hexagon shield on its front, and a blue square sword on its back Lithographic Stone D has a blue hexagon sword on its front, and a red square shield on its back. Lithographic Stone A has already been placed, and has a blue square armor on the front, and red hexagon helmet on its this, look to the smaller icons by each of the stones. The top one is easy enough - you need to place Lithographic Stone D and rotate to the back to place it. The bottom has a blue hexagon, and there’s only one stone besides D that has one, so place Lithographic Stone B on the bottom. The left has a red helmet with a straight line above and below - but only a tiny piece on the center, not enough info to know if it’s a square or hexagon. The same can’t be said for the right, as the straight line on the bottom is in the corner, so you know it’s a blue square. Because we already used the red square helmet for the icon on its back, the left must be a red hexagon. Place Lithographic Stone A there, leaving Lithographic Stone C to be placed on the right. advertisementThe end result should be Top Red Square Shield Left Red Hexagon Helmet Right Blue Square Sword Bottom Blue Hexagon ArmorMove through the next hallway past the rats and into another room with a headless corpse. Neat. Be sure to check the File - Iluminados 32 on a table by a breakable barrel. Heading out of the room, something creepy will skitter by, so have your weapon at the ready. Be sure to look left at the end of the hall to find a Small Key. You can take it with you, or run back to the Bindery to open the locked drawer for a Brass Pocket Watch. but there’s another locked drawer further on worth waiting for. As soon as you push a cabinet aside in the next hallway, the skittering creature — a Plaga — will show off its power, clinging to the back of a Zealot to turn him into a frenzied madman. Known as the Plaga Arana, they’ll move faster and hit harder under its control, so your main objective should be dislodging them by force — a shotgun blast at close range will often cause them to separate. advertisementAs soon as the Plaga gets knocked to the ground, swap to your pistol to fire a few follow up shots to explode the parasite before it can rise up and jump back on. With the Plaga dead, the Zealot will be much easier to handle. Just down the stairs from the Plaga is the Merchant and a Typewriter - a good place to save and repair, sell your new treasures and upgrade your weapons. The next bit will be another grueling gauntlet that you’ll want to be ready for. When you’re ready, attack the iron counterweight to open the gate. Castle BattlementsAdvanced slowly onto the ramparts, as the annoying Ramon Salazar will begin taunting you from a nearby loudspeaker. advertisementDon’t rush in blindly though, if you look up at the first tower-like battlement you can spot three Zealots armed with crossbows waiting to ambush you if you try to move in close. Out-snipe them with your rifle, and break a barrel on the left before moving closer to the drawbridge. See the Castle Battlements Map above for Item locations, breakable barrels, Treasures, and more! The drawbridge features a counterweight like the one in the Merchant’s room, but you’ll need to aim with your pistol at it. As soon as you do, swap to your Bolt Thrower and arm an attachable mine. Once the drawbridge extends, you’ll be facing several Zealots, some armed with shields, and a Plaga behind them ready to send a Zealot into a mad dash. advertisementA well placed mine can obliterate the shields and wound most of them — but you can also use a Grenade or Flash Grenade to break through their ranks and swap to a shotgun if the Plaga Arana dashes in close. Entering the first battlement’s ground base floor, note the sealed door with the moon icon, and an open door further behind it with a sun icon — you’ll be seeing a lot of these. Do not pull the lever, so that Moon Door are closed, and Sun Doors are make your way left towards a spiral staircase, and be ready for a Plaga to skitter along the wall. Take it out with a few pistol shots. At the top of the stairs waits another Zealot with a shield, but a Plaga behind it will try to control them. Don’t waste any time stunning the Zealot with a shotgun blast, and try to shoot the Plaga behind before it can jump. advertisementThere’s more breakable barrels, and more importantly a sun door should that should already be open if you didn't pull the lever down below. Since the gate to the ramparts sealed, jump down to the first floor to enter through the sun door. You’ll have to drop down again to a lower section under the ramparts full of twisting passages. The way forward leads to a sealed moon door guarded by a Zealot with a scythe - remember to duck if he throws or press dodge when he runs at you to jump over the attack. Turn around and head the other direction back into the lower battlement floor. A Zealot with a scythe will come at you first, and there are two more further in the room, but there’s also a lantern you can shoot down to cause a fire if you’re quick. Grab some barrels in the corner before heading through the main room to the back where you can find a lever to swap the door. Pull the lever, so that Sun Doors are closed, and Moon Doors are the passage to find a way back up to a higher floor that also has a lever, but be wary moving ahead as two Zealots are waiting to ambush you — but you can at least snipe one through the bars then attack as they rush towards you. If you pull the lever to open the sun door, you may notice in the next battlement that there’s a sealed room with a hole in the middle. It’s actually worth not pulling the lever just yet. Instead, look for a hole in the upper floor on the other side of the barred gate from the lever. Treasure - Ornate NecklaceWhen you drop back down to the lowest level with Moon Doors opened, the door at the end of the hall the scythe Zealot was guarding should now be open, and after dealing with another Zealot, you can check the other side hall for a red chest holding an Ornate Necklace. Castle Treasure 11 - Ornate NecklaceClimbing up the ladder from where the necklace was, you’ll be in the second battlement tower. Carefully leave the barred room and strafe to the side of the stairs going up. Looking upwards, you should be able to spot a Zealot with a shield waiting and looking straight forward — giving you a clear line of sight with your rifle to his head. advertisementAfter taking him out, step back and look upwards between the steps of the stairwell on the opposite side. There’s a Zealot with a crossbow on this side, and above her is a lantern you can shoot down to finish her off without ever giving her a shot. With the stairways clear, head up to the next level, but be ready for two more Zealots to come rushing at you armed with flails. Bait them down the stairwell if you need to keep distance on them. After they’ve been killed, loot the barrel in the corner and note the sealed gates, but if you look back through the gate to the previous battlement tower, you should be able to see another counterweight on this side next to the gate, and shoot it to unlock it so you can get back to it faster later. For now, look for yet another moon door that should be open, but a lever next to it will do the job if not, and head up the next stairwell to the battlement roof. As you explore your surroundings, a new threat will emerge The Armored El Gigante. advertisementThis veritable Battle Troll straight out of Middle-Earth is impervious to any attempt you make to shoot it, so don’t waste the ammo. It will also continually find rocks and rubble to fling at you with impressive accuracy and startling damage, so finding the rhythm and sounds preceding its throws will be imperative as you find places to crouch down and avoid taking damage. Note that if you jump off by the yellow marking and head east, you won’t be able to return easily to this area soon after, so first — let’s go another path. Jump down instead to the ramparts leading back to the first battlement tower you explored the one you shot the counterweight to open the door, and look to the left to shoot another counterweight out here so you can get back inside to the second battlement tower. After a toss, run to the first battlement, but don’t go inside. Instead, wait for the giant to start walking your way and out of sight before climbing the ladder up next to the doorway. Treasure - EmeraldAs you get to the top of the tower, the giant will luckily walk to the far right side, giving you a chance to take cover against the low walls by crouching down. After a toss, head up to the center of the roof to find a chest holding an Emerald, as well as a Yellow Herb next to it. Castle Treasure 12 - Emerald 1Clockwork Castellan Location You’re not done up on this tower just yet. Carefully time your run back to the low outer roof wall, and then make your way to the back of the tower roof. Here you’ll find a Clockwork Castellan on top of some sandbags back here you can stab. Clockwork Castellan 8advertisementWhen you’re ready to proceed, jump down and return back to the second battlement rooftop, and jump off the ledge down to the east. Quickly turn left to find another counterweight off the side to shoot so you can take cover back in the battlement tower if needed. Time your run across the ramparts to take cover at the first brazier when you reach it, as there’s a long gap with no cover after. Ready your weapons, because the moment you reach the next broken battlement, a Zealot will be waiting on the right, and another one with a shield will start staggering across from the far side. A magnum or shotgun should dissuade him from giving you too much trouble. advertisementOnce the area is mostly clear, run to the back of the battlement for more cover, and some Gunpowder on some rubble. Wait for the next salvo, then take cover to the right of the doorway. This is important, because two crossbow Zealots are guarding the next path, and you’ll need to pop out of cover to snipe them back, then retreat before getting hit the giant shouldn’t be able to hit you here at least. Once they are taken care of, advance along the broken rampart and wedge yourself into cover against the tiny piece of wall the other junk won’t help as much. Once the next salvo of rocks hit, move forward and jump down. Turn around as soon as you hit the ground, as there are Zealots on both sides of this lower platform. The one closest to you is right behind you and could use a shotgun to the face, while the far one will have to race forward and likely be killed by a rock salvo before reaching you. advertisementSince the sun door he was guarding is sealed, you’ll need a new plan. Head into the room closest to you to find a crate and a lever to swap doors. Pull the lever to close Moon Doors and open Sun it will also close the door you just came through, prompting a need to climb down to the lowest level. Before you drop down again, look across for a Zealot below and snipe him so he can’t harass you later. Otherwise, you can run into the room behind you as you descend, and lure the Zealot past an explosive barrel here. Treasure - RubyAlong with the explosive barrel and a few other breakable barrels, look up at the ceiling to find a censer dangling down, and shoot it to reveal a Ruby Gem. Castle Treasure 13 - Ruby 2Run to the far side of this lower section to grab another breakable barrel, and then look along the middle walls here for a ladder. You’ll have to time it right and sprint out and up right as the salvo hits — and the next giant toss should hit just behind you, as you head into the last battlement tower to find
a cannon! advertisementClear out the yellow barrels and then smash the counterweight on this level to watch the cannon rise
but not all the way. Treasure - Ornate BeetleIf you kept the Small Key on your person found earlier instead of going back to the Bindery, you can find a locked drawer behind the ladder up to the next level. Using the Small Key here will get you access to the Ornate Beetle treasure! Castle Treasure 14 - Ornate Beetle 1On the next floor up via the ladder, watch out for a Zealot who guards this floor. Defeat her and then look next to the sealed rampart gate to find another counterweight to destroy, bringing the cannon up to the roof level, and take the stairs up to follow it. Once you reach the roof, take cover behind the large barricade, and wait for the Giant to strike. As soon as the salvo hits the defensive wall, sprint to the cannon, and pull it around to aim. Loose your shot, and the armored El Gigante will topple below. advertisementWhile you have control of the cannon, be sure to swing it further left across the rest of the ramparts, and you can spy another large gate needing to be destroyed. There’s also a few Zealots guarding it — no sense in fighting fair blast them apart too! Since you can’t backtrack anymore, drop down over the side of the tower to the scaffolding below and down to the ramparts below. There’s one last counterweight to destroy if you want, then make your way to the gate you destroyed. After a close shave, you’ll be on your way through a few rooms to finally reach the Courtyard. Look to the right for a room you can enter, and you’ll be reunited with your wayward target, and the chapter will conclude. advertisementUp Next Chapter 9 - The Grand HallWas this guide helpful? In This Guide
